A Statesman! A Statesman! My Kingdom for a Statesman!

Two of my favorite world leaders, Winston Churchill and Ronald Reagan were true statesmen.  They were honest and both perceived the greatness of the human spirit and decried any form of governmental control that subdued that spirit.  Both clearly decried the dangers of a socialist type government.  Churchill famously stated “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy.  It’s inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

Reagan understood clearly governments innate ability to screw up almost everything it tried to manage when he said:  “Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases.  “If it moves tax it.  If it keeps moving regulate it.  If it stops moving subsidize it.”

Americans will soon be faced with the choice of electing a president who will either stop the advance of socialism or a president who will continue to feed the monster of government by spending as if there were no tomorrow.  Liberal policies that breed dependance on the government have done nothing historically speaking but create  citizens bereft of the pioneer spirit that made America the greatest country in the world.  America is the standard of freedom and ingenuity in the world for two reasons.  The light of democracy represented by the flame held high by the statue of liberty, and the grinding wheels of capitalism driven by the indomitable American spirit and its desire for personal achievement.  Increased intrusion of government into the lives of the citizenry do nothing but dim the flame of democracy and clog the wheels of capitalism.

Give me a statesman (woman) who will stop the transformation of America into a bastion of dependency and return it to the cradle of hope for the “teeming masses yearning to be free.”

One thing I know.  Such a statesman will never be found in the ranks of liberalism.

Idleness and Violence

“I work to stay alive.”  – Bette Davis.    “Get busy living or get busy dying.”    – Stephen King

Talk show pundits, politicians, and bar room philosophers banter around the causes/reasons for the seemingly irrational behavior of thousands of protestors over the recent Grand Jury decision to not indict officer Darrin Wilson.  The facts, as reported by the Ferguson Prosecutor, discredited much of the previously reported account of events leading up to the shooting death of teenager Michael Brown.  Yet protesters continue to disregard sworn testimony or the discredit of the same.

A new symbol for nationwide protestors, “Hands up, don’t shoot,” continues to be the war cry even though its origin is founded on a lie.  It never happened.  Irrational!!

Our focus on perceived police racism ( sometimes real) as the root of the problem is a distractor.  We hack at the leaves of the cause of disruptive social events such as the Ferguson protests with rubber machete’s when we should be running excavators twenty-four-seven to expose its real roots…roots of poverty, hopelessness, idleness, broken dreams and hate.

The Bette Davis quote is a classic.  Having arrived as an actress at a point in her life where work was no longer a financial necessity, she continued working to “stay alive.”  The Michael Browns of the world and millions like him, including thousands of the “national” Ferguson protestors apparently didn’t and don’t know what it is like to experience the satisfaction of having meaningful work.  Michael Brown would be alive today if, instead of stealing cigarillos,  he was doing homework or resting in preparation for reporting to his job.  Instead, the curse of idleness wrapped its tentacles around a young mans aspirations and dreams, leaving him to roam the streets that fateful night in Ferguson, a young man without hope and without direction.

Who’s to blame?  A question for which there is no easy answer but one thing is for sure.  A national government blinded by ideology ignores facts, history and reality; a pattern destined to undermine the framework of economic expansion and consequently individual opportunity.

For six disruptive years, and before, our Federal Government has had its ladder placed against the wrong wall.  Instead of using rational policy changes to revive a flailing economy, the Obama administration has systematically and ignorantly stifled the engine of opportunity that made America the greatest country in the world.  The small business.   Regulation upon regulation have driven the golden goose to lay eggs of lead. In the midst of an economy whose recovery is anemic at best, the Federal Government needs to stop looking at Capitalism as the enemy and remember what made this country the worlds standard bearer for opportunity.  When that is done, the Michael Browns of the world will be so busy pursuing their dreams there will be no time or motivation to steal cigarillos.

The Destructive Power of Idealogy

Idealog:  “One given to fanciful ideas or theories; One who is guided more by the image of perfection than by the real world.” Synonyms:  Crusader, Fanatic.

Idealogues who have power, as does the current administration in Washington, offer up a Clear and Present Danger to the very existence of the greatest government in the history of mankind – American democracy and the capitalist system.  Actions of the Obama administration continue to demonstrate its inability to balance reality with fantasy while setting America on the path to becoming a second rate country.  Not a country where everyone has to opportunity for self determination, but a country where the poorer become poorer and the freedom of opportunity comes in the form of a handout from the government.  Points.

1.  This Presidency has bent over backwards to pacify an idealogy that has vowed to destroy the American way of life.  His exchange of five high level world terrorists for an American whose allegiance itself is questionable while he did nothing to save the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens and those brave men who died with him is not only appalling but gives a new meaning to the word hypocrisy. Was not Chris Stevens serving this great nation just as are the members of our military and did he not deserve the same level of protection?  With thousands of years of history to reference why do we not realize it is a fantasy to believe that the Taliban and fanatic Muslims are open to any form of compromise.  When is this administration going to learn?

2.  The Idealogue continues to strangle the American economy by promoting climate change as a force attributable only to the existence on humans on the planet.  Given, we should take individual responsibility to establish and maintain a clean environment and I have seen the air in Los Angeles change from choking to breathable in the seventies.  However, in reality, The world has, and continues to, go through cycles during which the climate changes.  Pollutants spewed into the atmosphere daily by worldwide volcanic eruptions and forest fires make the carbon footprint left by mankind puny in comparison.  No question we need to be vigilant but we also must be rational.  Idealogues are rarely rational and also consistently twist or hide the truth to achieve their ends.
